Yay New Books!

Making books, while fun, is a long process filled with many steps. The minutia become so important, that it’s easy to forget what the final project will look and feel like.

That’s why getting advance, final copies of your books is such a thrill.

Suddenly, everything but the sculptural, realness of the book disappears, and you can view it as audience member for the first time.

Well, yesterday an envelope was dropped off at the Marcraft Novelty MGF Co. containing copies of my first two Elephant and Piggie books, a series of early readers in comic book form that feature two best friends.

Elephant Gerald is careful. Piggie is not.
Piggie cannot help smiling. Gerald can.
Gerald worries so that Piggie does not have to.

I can not be more excited about these books and really hope that audiences will dig them.

The first two books, Today I Will Fly! and My Friend is Sad, clock in at 57 pages and will release in April.

The fall will see the release of There is Bird on Your Head! and I Am Invited to a Party!

I’m roughing out number five as we speak.

A short New England tour is being put together for mid-April. I can't wait to go to a reading this spring and instead of me reading to kids, have them read to me!

New England is just a hop, skip and a jump from Montreal, Mo. Sure you don’t wanna travel a little farther north? We’d welcome you with open arms...

I'm sure they're lovely arms, bernie g., but I kinda go where I'm told and I don't think Montreal is on the agenda this trip. (I'll be in Toronto as some point this year, tho')

Good news, but most importantly, when do I get MY copies - preferably signed, of course.

And I have to say that it wasn't particularly considerate of you to post such big news when I just linked to your blog the other day, because now I'll have to link here again, because I'm so excited, blah, blah, blah, and I'm going to look positively obsessed with you...or maybe it's a little too late.

For real, congrats.

Any way to be updated on when and where you will be in NE? I live outside Boston and am an inspiring author/illustrator that loves your work. Of course, so does my 3 yr. :)

I post all of my public appearances at my site (www.mowillems.com) a few weeks before. So pop by in early April for an update.

Look forward to seeing you.

Wandering after a booksigning at ALA this past weekend and trying to keep my mitts off of all the great stuff for librarians and the like...

I DID however stumble upon -- and immediately snatch up and advanced reading copy of your first two elephant and piggie books :)

My 3.5 year old daughter loves it, and so do I.

Clear. Expressive. Fantastic.

Fine, fine work Mr. Willems.

Cheers!

Felt silly for spelling your name wrong the first time! Thus the repost...
