I’ve always thought of myself as a cartoonist and certainly use cartoon/comic conventions in my books (sometimes that’s all I use).

Now if we could just get rid of the horrible expression that sounds like gore splattered Jane Austen: “The Graphic Novel”. Ugh.

Honestly, there needs to be more newspaper comics that kids can read and enjoy. Nearly all the ones kids could enjoy are ones that have been passed on and are stale and tired. The kids could read the rest of the comics, but there's too much "I can relate to that!" and not actual funny. Then the last category are the comics that are truly funny, but kids can't really appreciate very much. The only true comic in the papers right now that kids can really enjoy is Mutts. Runner up would probably be Over the Hedge if it weren't so pop culture fixated.
