Update & Mo'!

It's been a crazy month of pals, work, appearances, family, & holiday.

ALA was great fun. I always enjoy seeing old pals, authors, editors, librarians, and their ilk on the floor.  This years Caldecott & Newbery speeches were excellent and this years Geisel Medalist, Josh Schneider, knocked it out of the park. I was honored to receive my honor for Elephant & Piggie's I BROKE MY TRUNK! and to be in such great company.

After the convention it was off to Los Angeles for work and pals, including a now traditional illustrators lunch.  Attendees Mr. Warburton and Lisa Yee have reports of the hi-jinks.

But, there's more!

We also visited with the unbelievably nice Jerry & Kim Scott. You read Jerry every morning with your coffee in the funny pages when you enjoy ZITS! & Baby Blues. We had a great time hiking & sampling local wine, etc.

Poking around in Jerry Scott's ZITS! notebook of ideas was a big thrill.
After that a BIG family adventure involving kayaking, horseback riding, Yosemite, a wedding, and fruit!

Big Horse

Big Tree

Big Kelp.

Big Fruit.
Jack Fruit (which I didn't know Jack Fruit about until coming across it in a grocery in little Vietnam in Oakland) is huge, has a cool exterior texture, a tiny amount of edible fruit (but it's yummy), and secretes a sticky gluey substance that is only removable by turpentine!

Cool texture!

Sticky!
We learned about this only after getting it all over our hands and my in-laws house.

While all this was going on, TIME magazine asked me about which books I like to read in the summer (along with this funky portrait).

The Cape Cod paper enjoys the current production of KNUFFLE BUNNY A CAUTIONARY MUSICAL running at the Cape Cod Rep this summer.

And thanks to you, this whole time THE DUCKLING GETS A COOKIE!? stayed on the the NYTimes Bestseller list  (right now it's at #10 for week 14).

Thanks, you.

But the big news is THIS SATURDAY, JULY 21 I'll be at the Eric Carle Museum in Amherst, MA premiering 2 animated films based on my books, EDWINA THE DINOSAUR WHO DIDN'T KNOW SHE WAS EXTINCT and KNUFFLE BUNNY FREE.

Join me for the films, a Q+A, and signing that follows.  You can also see the great exhibits and say hello to The Red Elephant.

Check out this article from the Springfield, MA paper about the event.

Hope to see you there!
