June is going to be an exciting month as two exhibits will be opening on the same weekend featuring two very different aspects of my work.
The first, SERIOUSLY SILLY: A DECADE OF ART AND WHIMSY BY MO WILLEMS, is a major retrospective show at the ERIC CARLE MUSEUM OF PICTURE BOOK ART in Amherst, MA of the first decade of my picture book work including many rough and inspirational drawings.
The second, DON'T PIGEONHOLE ME!, is a collection of drawings, sculptures, magnet constructions, ceramics, and cartoons from the upcoming book DON'T PIGEONHOLE ME!: TWO DECADES OF THE MO WILLEMS SKETCHBOOK at the R. MICHELSON GALLERY in Northampton, MA.
They're opening the weekend of June 21-23 and there will be loads of fun public events, but more on that later.
I'm really excited about the show at the Carle, which we've been working on for well over a year. The museum has produced a wonderful 40+ page catalog of the exhibit complete with an in depth essay by head curator Nick Clark and ample images of my work from rough to final. I think it came out great.
Here's a sneak peek into the catalog.
The catalog is available at the Museum Gift Shop (or you can drop them a line).
I hope you get a chance to see the shows. The R. Michelson show will run through the summer and the Carle show will run through February of 2014.
