DECEMBER UPDATE!

COMIX!

I'm on sabbatical for the next year.  While I will be making various appearances in Europe and beyond, mostly I'll be spending time at the home base in Paris, France drawing and doodling.

You can check out my experiments over at Universal U-Click for a comic-strip-doodle-thingie called PARIS DOODLES . The strip runs drawings, dining room dinner doodles, and photos on weekdays.

APPEARANCE!

I'll be making my first appearance in France just north of Paris at the Montreuil Salon de Livre et de la Press Jeuness on December 1 from 16-18h at the Editions Kaleidoscope booth (Rdc/H5).

Je serai dans le salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse à Montreuil, sur le stand de KALEIDOSCOPE (Rdc/H5), DEC 1, 16-18 h! @SLPJ93

Looks like it will be an amazing event and I look forward to meeting my neighbors as we celebrate Chat le Chat. I hope you'll drop by.

THEATER!

ELEPHANT & PIGGIE'S WE ARE IN A PLAY! is currently running at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC finishing at the end of December. I'm very excited about the musical that features Elephant, Piggie, a musical trio called The Squirrelles, plus a live band.

I was in DC for the opening weekend and it was such a joy.  The cast and crew really came together to make something incredible.  What fun to work with such great folks all at the top of their game.  The kids in the audience literally went nuts.  It was a joy.

Unfortunately, the KC no longer tours shows, so if you want to see this production, come see it during the run!  There aren't many left but: Tickets are available here!

Here are some great pix from the show:

The Washington Post ran a nice interview before the show opened.

With composer Deborah Wicks La Puma and Director Jerry Whiddon after the show.

The kids at the after party were much less interested in my speech than the awesome, yet un-cut-into cake (and rightly so).

Also, the official poster for the show will be available at the Kennedy Center Gift Shop.

EXHIBITS

SERIOUSLY SILLY: A DECADE OF ART & WHIMSY BY MO WILLEMS is on view at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA thru mid-February.

"Comprising nearly 100 works, the exhibition surveys the full range of his prolific output from the award-winning Knuffle Bunny series, the irresistible Pigeon books, stand-alone efforts such as Leonardo the Terrible Monster and Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs, as well as his early reader series, Elephant and Piggie and Cat the Cat. The exhibition will also provide an informative insight into the artist’s meticulous working process."
Here's a nice piece in the Amherst paper about the museum's 10th anniversary with lots of pix from the exhibit.

Fantastic Rumpus: 50 Years of Children’s Book Illustration an exhibit of contemporary children's book illustration (including some of mine) opens at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts in Kalamazoo, MI on Dec. 15, and runs through Feb. 9th, 2014.

(You might spot The Pigeon trying to drive a Kalamazoo bus during the run of this exhibit- literally.  If you do, DON'T LET HIM DRIVE!)

On Dec. 7th at 1pm there will be an opening of an exhibit including some Pigeon drawings at the Boston Children's Hospital.  This event looks like it will be very kid friendly.

Back in Northampton, MA, the R Michelson Galleries 24th Annual Children's Illustration exhibit is currently running and features lots of great work by great pals as well as some new original Elephant and Piggie drawings. The show runs through mid-January.

NICE THINGS!

School Library Journal has named THAT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA! one of their best books of the year!  Very exciting and lovely to be in such nice company.  The Columbus Dispatch agrees, putting the book on their top 20 for the year.

If you're a Good Reads member & like participatory democracy, you can vote for the book in the Good Reads Choice awards.  It's a finalist for best picture book.

Thanks to you, Elephant and Piggie's latest adventure, I'M A FROG! spent all of last month on the New York Times Bestseller list!  Thanks, you!
