There is a bunch of fun things that are happening in February.  Please scroll down and have a gander.

I'm on sabbatical for the year.  While I will be making various appearances in Europe and beyond, mostly I'll be spending time at the home base in Paris, France drawing and doodling.

You can check out my experiments over at Universal U-Click for a comic-strip-doodle-thingie called PARIS DOODLES . The strip runs drawings, dining room dinner doodles, and photos on weekdays.

SERIOUSLY SILLY: A DECADE OF ART & WHIMSY BY MO WILLEMS is on view at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA thru February 23rd.

"Comprising nearly 100 works, the exhibition surveys the full range of his prolific output from the award-winning Knuffle Bunny series, the irresistible Pigeon books, stand-alone efforts such as Leonardo the Terrible Monster and Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs, as well as his early reader series, Elephant and Piggie and Cat the Cat. The exhibition will also provide an informative insight into the artist’s meticulous working process."

Opening on February 7th in Seoul, Korea is an exhibition entitled  "The Pigeon Goes to Seoul: A Children's Exhibition Celebrating Mo Willems" at Seongnam Arts Center.

808, Seongnam-daero,

This promises to be an exciting show filled with a large selection of my book work including various interactive activities.  I'll be visiting the exhibit in late February (more on that below).

The show runs though June 8, 2014

If you can't make it to Amherst or Seoul, how about:

Fantastic Rumpus: 50 Years of Children’s Book Illustration an exhibit of contemporary children's book illustration (including some of mine) is at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts in Kalamazoo, MI through Feb. 9th, 2014.

(You might spot The Pigeon trying to drive a Kalamazoo bus during the run of this exhibit- literally.  If you do, DON'T LET HIM DRIVE!)

At McDaniel College in Baltimore, MD is Beyond Words: The Artistry of Illustrated Children's Books featuring a stellar line up (and also featuring a few of my pieces.  The show runs through March.

I have a series of signings and small events during the gigantic comic book festival at Angoulême, France running from January 30- February 2. If you can make it, come on by.  The French cartoonists have a tradition of adding huge, fun drawings in every book; a tradition I'll do my best to continue...

On the week of Feb. 9th, First Book will be celebrating Elephant and Piggie's FRIENDIVERSARY! An opportunity to have fun, celebrate friendship, and insure that every 2nd grader attending a Title 1 school in New Orleans, Springfield (MA), & Holyoke (MA) will go home with their very own book to read and share with family and friends.

The studio has been getting books out to kids for 7 years or so and teamed up with the really great folks at First Book 4 years ago.

And this year you can help!

If there's a title 1 school in your area you'd like to sponsor and help celebrate Friendiversary with First Book Edition of books for kids, special posters and activities, well then you can.

Mo' info about Friendiversary here (including the ever illusive "Friendiversary Dance" in it's natural environment).

Past posts from past years about Friendiversary here.

On FEBRUARY 1ST, the Eric Carle Museum will be celebrating Friendiversary with free admission to the museum and special buses bringing in kids from Springfield and Holyoke for the day.  Elephant and Piggie will be there as will author & pal Grace Lin.  Don't miss it.

The Kids Best Fest in Northampton, MA will be screening "An Afternoon of Mo Willems animated shorts" featuring shorts based on my books on Tuesday February 18 at 1pm at the beautiful Academy of Music. Folks from the Eric Carle Museum will be on hand giving out family passed for the last weekend of the Seriously Silly exhibit in Amherst.

Here's a radio interview with Ireland's RTE about why Elephant is named Gerald and other thoughts...

Just released is an anthology picture book spearheaded by pal Eric Carle called WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ANIMAL? I contributed a spread along with a bunch of really great folks.  All profits benefit our pals at the Eric Carle Picture Book  Museum in Amherst, MA.

The backstory is here. And a starred review is here.

I'm overjoyed that Elephant & Piggie's A BIG GUY TOOK MY BALL! has been named a 2014 Theodore Seuss Geisel Honor Book. Again, thanks to all on the Committee for your support, which only encourages me to work harder on future efforts.

The CYBILS awards are given by a passionate group of kids book fans who promote books via social media.  I'm proud to say that they have bestowed several CYBILS awards on Elephant and Piggie over the years and excited that Elephant and Piggie have been nominated in the Early Readers category with A BIG GUY TOOK MY BALL!  Thanks for the support, it's great to know that folks still are enjoying the exploits of these two best pals.

Another award that has been kind to me over the years is Bank Street College's Irma Black Award.  It's a particularly wonderful award because the winner is selected by a nation wide group of real kids.  I'm thrilled to have THAT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA! selected as a semi-finalist for the award.

Thanks to you, Elephant & Piggie's I'M A FROG! popped back onto the NYTimes Besteller list for a week at #9.  Thanks, you!

That's this month's post.  Meanwhile, I'm sure The Pigeon will keep tweeting...
