JUNE UPDATE!

COMIX!

I'm on sabbatical for the year.  While I will be making various appearances in Europe and beyond, mostly I'll be spending time at the home base in Paris, France drawing and doodling.

You can check out my experiments over at Universal U-Click for a comic-strip-doodle-thingie called PARIS DOODLES . The strip runs drawings, dining room dinner doodles, and photos on weekdays.

NEW BOOK!

On June 3, the newest Elephant and Piggie adventure, MY NEW FRIEND IS SO FUN!  will be published.

Gerald is careful. Piggie is not.
Piggie cannot help smiling. Gerald can.
Gerald worries so that Piggie does not have to.

Gerald and Piggie are best friends.

In My New Friend Is So Fun!, Piggie has found a new friend! But is Gerald ready to share?

I hope you'll enjoy this adventure starring Elephant, Piggie, Snake, and new pal Brian Bat.

BOOK NEWS!

THE PIGEON NEEDS A BATH! had a great month in May, staying on the New York Times Bestseller list and garnering this very nice starred review from PW magazine in which they say, "The Pigeon's cockeyed defiance and Willems's impeccable comedic timing are as fun and frisky as ever". Thanks, PW!

THAT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA! won the 2014 IRMA BLACK AWARD, an award administered by the Bank Street School, but voted on by kids from all over the world!  Thanks, kids from all over the world! (Here is the official notice with the finalists and winners of the Cook prize)

This is very exciting news!

Meanwhile in Belgium, KNUFFLEBUNNY, the Dutch-language version of Knuffle Bunny Too, has won a prize voted on by kids as well.

So, I thanked them with this video.

APPEARANCES!

I'll be back in the US during the end of the month to attend the American Librarian Association's annual summer convention in Las Vegas, NV.  I'll be doing a few signings, picking up a Geisel Honor for Elephant and Piggie's A BIG GUY TOOK MY BALL! and thanking the committee in person.

If you're attending the convention, think about visiting me at one of these events (Sorry that the location codes look like license plate numbers):

Saturday, June 28

3 pm: The Disney-Hyperion Preview presentation. (LVCC-S226)

The preview is an opportunity for a slew of authors to give a sneak peek of some upcoming work.  In my case, it will be a first ever reading of a brand new favorite Elephant and Piggie adventure, WAITING IS NOT EASY!, which is slated for release in November of 2014

Sunday, June 29

9:30 am - 10:30 am: Book signing at the Disney Hyperion Booth (#603)

11 am - noon: Book signing at the HarperCollins Booth (#503)

These signings tend to be busy, so arrive a bit early.  I'd love to say 'hello' to you.

I'd also recommend (but say no more about) the first ever presentation of the Snicket Award for a Librarian Overcoming Difficulties (3:30 pm LVCCC-N249)

Monday, June 30

8:00 am: ALSC Awards Presentation (including the Geisel) (LVCC-N255/257)

I hope to see you if you're attending ALA this year.

EXHIBITS!

A fun exhibit in Seoul, Korea!  "The Pigeon Goes to Seoul: A Children's Exhibition Celebrating Mo Willems" is finishing its run at Seongnam Arts Center.

808, Seongnam-daero,
Bundang-gu,
Seongnam-si,
Gyeonggi-do.

The show is filled with a large selection of my book work including various interactive activities and games.

It runs though June 8, 2014.

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is running a group show based on the new anthology picture book WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ANIMAL? that is also finishing its run.  The book, organized by pal Eric Carle, features 14 picture book artists (including myself).  The exhibit includes those works and YOU.  As part of digital component of the exhibit you can submit a drawing or painting (or anything) to be included on a monitor in the exhibit (submission details are here).

Proceeds from sales of the book WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ANIMAL? benefit the Carle Museum.

This exhibit runs through June 8, 2014

Here is a nice piece about the show and the book in the Boston Globe.

I'm excited about this classroom/lego contest where kids are encouraged to create their own Pigeon stories in LEGO. The winners will receive a 2 foot tall Pigeon made of LEGO (& a video from me) or exclusive limited edition LEGO MINI-PIGEONS! (yikes!)

THAT'S IT!

That's this month's post.  Meanwhile, I'm sure The Pigeon will keep tweeting...
