A great month for theater and exhibits! Plus, I'll see you in Atlanta and Northampton!

Here's the video trailer for Elephant & Piggie's latest adventure, I REALLY LIKE SLOP!, which was just released on October 27th.  I hope you enjoy the book!

And in case you missed my conversation with Tony DiTerlizzi about our chapter book THE STORY OF DIVA AND FLEA,  which was published a few weeks back, here it is.

The exhibit is based on the 2013 solo show at the Eric Carle Museum, with added original work and cool interactive stuff. Don't miss it!

I'm very excited about the exhibit and hope you'll have a blast viewing it!

I'll also be visiting Atlanta this month, more on that in the APPEARANCES section.

The exhibit runs through January of 2016.

The R Michelson Galleries presents its 26th annual Children's Illustration Exhibit, which runs from November 8 through January 15th, 2016.

Truly a who's who event, the exhibit will feature recent work from a slew of impressive illustrators, many of them Caldecott medalists or honorees.  I'm happy to have some recent Elephant and Piggie work in the show.

If you're in the area, don't miss the opening on Sunday, Nov. 8th from 4 - 6 pm. It's a family gathering of children's illustrators and pals and always great fun.  You can see some of the fun from past years HERE.

Full details are here.

The Society of Illustrators annual juried exhibit of picture book art includes an Elephant & Piggie image as well as a Tony DiTerlizzi drawing from THE STORY OF DIVA AND FLEA.  Go check it out.  The show runs through December 23.

Full details are here.

I'll be visiting Atlanta to talk about my work to kids and sign books for you. Details are below:

On Friday, November 13 I'll be talking to a slew of kids from all around Atlanta who voted me to win this year's Milner Award.  It's always a thrill when real life kids like my books, so I look forward to having a fun reading and drawing demo.

Then, I'll be moving over to the High Museum for a few exciting events, including attending a performance of PLAY THE PLAY WITH CAT THE CAT at the Alliance Theater.

I'm afraid the Milner presentation and the CAT THE CAT show are sold out.  But, please drop by the two other appearances I have that weekend.

Saturday, November 14

There are 4 productions of 2 different plays featuring my characters this month.  Go see a show if you're in the area!

The Kennedy Center is remounting the vaudevillian adventure ELEPHANT & PIGGIE'S WE ARE IN A PLAY! starting November 25th, 2015 and running through January 6th.

They're bringing back the original director and choreographer, so this is going to be a great show! Particularly exciting is that this production is going to go on a lengthy tour in 2016, hopefully near you (mo' info as it comes in)!

Tickets and information are here!  This one may well sell out.

The KC has also a fun resource of videos for students to learn about the creation of the original production.

The Seattle Children's Theater production of WE ARE IN A PLAY! has been held over through December 6.  The folks at the Seattle Children's Theater put on amazing productions, so this should be a great show!

Tickets and details here.

Here is a nice review of the production!

The Linganore High School is putting on the first High School production of ELEPHANT & PIGGIE'S WE ARE IN A PLAY!  The show runs from Nov. 13-22.  Good luck, guys!

In conjunction with the Seriously Silly exhibit at the High Museum, the Alliance Theater has created a theater piece for the very young entitled PLAY THE PLAY WITH CAT THE CAT! which features wonderful puppets from the Cat the Cat world in a fun, bubbly, interactive romp.  This show is likely to sell out fast, so get your tickets.

I hope you'll get a chance to see the shows if you're in the area!

Kid Reporter Nicholas Curry had 5 questions each for Tony DiTerlizzi and I about DIVA AND FLEA for TIME FOR KIDSYou can read the interview here.

THANK YOU! + Reviews

Folks have been very nice about the recent release of THE STORY OF DIVA & FLEA, my first chapter book in collaboration with Tony DiTerlizziThe Wall Street Journal called it "sweet and satisfying"The New York Times called it a "light-hearted valentine to Paris". Bookpage said, "A reader could not ask for a more charming pair that Diva and Flea."

Exciting news: thanks to you, the book debuted at #10 on the New York Times  Middle Grade Bestseller List, a notoriously difficult group to get on and my first time there!  So, thank you very much.

We met a bunch of folks on at appearances in Amherst and Brooklyn last month and everyone was very nice.  Thanks for that, too.

Merci aux libraries Québécoispour le Prix des libraires jeunesse pour C’est N’est PAS une Bonne Idée!

I have decided to end the run of my comic strip of explorations and gags called FROM THE MO WILLEMS SKETCHBOOK.  It's been a great fun 2+ years of drawing, but, unfortunately, my schedule no longer allows for this kind of fun.

Happily, GoComics is archiving the work, so you'll have 25 months of drawings from my sketchbook, dining room dinner doodles, abstractions, photo-gags, and mo' to explore.  I hope it will provide the occasional smile or giggle.
