It's September, a busy month of NEW books and touring shows and wonderful exhibitions and fun stuff!

I'm super-excited about the SEPTEMBER 20th release of the ELEPHANT & PIGGIE LIKE READING SERIES launching with two books by two great pals.

Which BOOKLIST loved, giving it a starred review and saying:

"Though Elephant and Piggie have completed their own adventures, it’s wonderful to see them present this hilarious, thoughtful, and well-designed title."

Each adventure is the creation of these great authors and features a introduction and recap by ELEPHANT & PIGGIE.  I hope you'll find these new, dialog driven, funny, funny early readers to be a welcome addition to your library.

Check out these 2 nice reviews from School Library Journal about both books (and others they're excited about this fall).

2 appearances on 2 continents in SEPT. I hope you'll come see me when I visit:

Looking forward to discussing and reading from the Italian editions of my books during the Festivaletteratura, which is supposed to be amazing

Please come say, "Ciao" if you're in the area!

I'll be doing 3 readings and presentations at the Palazzo Del Mago Cappella

Saturday Sept. 10 10.30 am - Elephant & Piggie (Reginald E Tina)

Sunday Sept. 11   10.30 am - Elephant & Piggie (Reginald E Tina)

16.30 pm - The Story of Diva and Flea (Sulle Orme Di Diva E Pulce)

I'm excited to be returning to the NEW YORK HISTORICAL SOCIETY with my pals DAN SANTAT and LAURIE KELLER to launch the new ELEPHANT & PIGGIE LIKE READING series with their two fabulous books THE COOKIE FIASCO and WE ARE GROWING!

We'll be reading and joking and signing!
This event will sell out, so get your tickets asap!

THE ART & WHIMSY OF MO WILLEMS at the fantastic New-York Historical Society on Central Park West & 77th st in Manhattan is currently open for it's FINAL MONTH.

A wonderful, interactive exhibit that features my book work and earlier work for Sesame Street and Cartoon Network all with an NYC focus; you can even listen to me explain my process with an audio tour!

Elephant and Piggie will be available for special events throughout the run of the show.  There will also be regular film screenings and other events throughout the run.

The exhibit runs thru September 25, 2016, after which much of the original art will rest for a bit. So, if you're in NYC, do go for a visit, it'll be a while before this stuff is out in the world again.

The NEW YORK TIMES devoted a bunch of ink on reviewing the exhibit.  Their take on my work is extraordinarily flattering.  When you read something like: "If there’s a living creator of children’s books who stands a chance of occupying a cultural position akin to a Dr. Seuss or a Charles M. Schulz, it’s Mr. Willems," it's hard not to blush.

The review his HERE.

GET THE PICTURE, CONTEMPORARY CHILDREN'S BOOK ILLUSTRATION is a group show featuring original work from wonderful artists and pals Sophie Blackall, Bryan Collier, Raúl Colón, Marla Frazee, Jon Klassen, Melissa Sweet, David Wiesner, and myself.   Each artist will have a large collection of work, so this should be quite a fun exhibit.

The exhibit closes on October 9th, 2016

Lots of productions of my plays this month. Go see a show if you're in the area!

If you can't make it to any of the shows, the original cast album of ELEPHANT & PIGGIE is available here!

I'm excited that the KENNEDY CENTER TOURING production of ELEPHANT & PIGGIE'S WE ARE IN A PLAY! is back on the road all across AMERICA and CANADA.

It's a great show and one that often sells out.  So, get your tickets!

Remember to contact the individual venues for tickets and details.  Some of these may be school performances, but most should be open to the public.

Note: this is all out of my personal control and subject to change.

Thanks to you, Elephant & Piggie's final adventure, THE THANK YOU BOOK! stayed  on the New York Times Bestseller list  most of the summer (and for most of the time at #)1!

We even had one week with 3 Elephant and Piggie's on the list!  A first and a great thrill!

Thank YOU!

This summer, I sat down with CBS Saturday Morning for a really nice story about my career and the exhibit in NYC.  This piece also includes a brief interview with Trixie!

You can see the video here!

This summer during the ALA convention, the animated version of THAT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA! was awarded a Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children's Video.  Co-Producers Paul Gagne and myself were given medals and asked to make a speech.  You can find them here.

Speaking of Weston Woods, they've just released THE MO WILLEMS CARTOON COLLECTION VOLUME 4 featuring the animated versions of THE DUCKLING GETS A COOKIE, HOORAY FOR AMANDA & HER ALIGATOR, and GOLDILOCKS AND THE 3 DINOSAURS plus cool bonus features and documentaries.

You can get your copy HERE!

Don't forget to check out the previous Mo Willems Cartoon Collection Volumes, each has 3 cartoons, bonus extras, and features the vocal talents of myself, Cher, and Trixie Willems among others!

Next month will see the publication of my next picture book, NANETTE'S BAGUETTE, which has already garnered a starred review from KIRKUS.

I'm very excited and proud of the book.  I hope you'll enjoy it!

This video sizzle gives you a sense of the process of making the book.

This summer we lost Richard Thompson to Parkinson's Disease.  He was one of the greatest cartoonists in the history of the medium, a generous man, and a great friend.  The Comics Journal has a very good write up on him and his career, including never before seen inspirational work he did for Pete Docter as Pixar developed INSIDE OUT.

Take the time to read this piece about  a man who made the world a better place with his pen.

The article is here.

If you want to poke around the blog, some topics that might interest you are on the sidebar.

If you'd like to see some of my cartoons and doodles, check out FROM THE MO WILLEMS SKETCHBOOK., which features 25 months of drawings and ideas from Paris, France, Northampton, MA, and beyond. They're currently re-running, so you can see a new drawing every day!

Meanwhile, I'm sure The Pigeon will keep tweeting...
