Mo Willems Studio MAY, JUNE 2019 UPDATE!

We are busy gearing up for the first big show launching my tenure as Artist-in-Residence at the Kennedy Center:

DON'T LET THE PIGEON DO STORYTIME! featuring the Storytime All-Stars!

July 13, 2019
This all-star show features comedians performing my books as sketch, songs, drawing, and more.  Based on the shows we've been doing semi-regularly at the San Francisco Sketchfest, but bigger! This is going to be great fun!

The show is July 13, 2019, but get your tickets asap; this will sell out!

Tickets are available for KC Members May 14, 2019 and the Public on May 17, 2019

You can go to this site to learn more about some the events, programs, and outreach that MoKC has planned for the next 2 years.

It's all incredibly exciting and a great honor.  Also, it's going to be fun!

Harold & Hog Pretend for Real!

Author/Illustrator Dan Santat is back with another hilarious and heartfelt story for the Elephant and Piggie Like Reading! series.
Hog is careful. Harold is not. Harold cannot help smiling. Hog can. Hog worries so that Harold does not have to. Harold and Hog are best friends. But can Harold and Hog’s friendship survive a game of pretending to be Elephant & Piggie?
KIRKUS loved it, saying in a starred review, "Santat creates yet another early reader that is at once playful, self-aware, and perceptive in its exploration of the differences of personalities and the complications (or simplicities) of friendship."

This is our second time working with my pal, Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat.  It's a crazy ride and so fun.  I love this book.

Available at your favorite bookshop or library on May 7, 2019!

And coming in July:

The Pigeon HAS to Go to School!

The Pigeon is about to get SCHOOLED. Do YOU think he should go?Why does the Pigeon have to go to school? He already knows everything! And what if he doesn’t like it? What if the teacher doesn’t like him? What if he learns TOO MUCH!?! Ask not for whom the school bell rings; it rings for the Pigeon!
Booklist loved it, saying in a starred review: "Children on their way to kindergarten may recognize themselves in Pigeon’s story and take heart at his (eventual) enthusiasm...
Pigeon's been winning hearts since he first appeared with that bus, and best-selling, multi-multi-award- winning Willems is irresistible to kids and grown-ups alike."

I hope you'll enjoy it as well.

Thanks to you, March's  BECAUSE, featuring the art of very talented Amber Ren in her picture book debut, spent several weeks on the NYTimes Bestseller List.  Thanks, you!

The FENIMORE ART MUSEUM in Cooperstown, NY
Since their debut in 2007, Elephant and Piggie have entertained millions of children and adults with their hilarious escapades that impart valuable lessons on manners, empathy, emotions, and—most importantly—friendship.
The exhibition features a selection of original illustrations from all 25 Elephant and Piggie books. These black-and-white drawings are supplemented with digital color renderings, early sketches, dummy books, and character size charts, together revealing Willems’s methodical working process. A generation of children have learned to read with Elephant and Piggie, and this exhibition provides a rare opportunity to view the charismatic duo first-hand.

Glazer Children's Museum
110 W Gasparilla Plaza, Tampa, FL 33602

Runs thru May 12, 2019!

Then it travels to:

Opening at the Magic House on May 25!

The St. Louis show runs thru Sept 8, 2019!

This interactive, immersive experience filled with games, drawing, animation and much Mo' is designed to spark creativity in kids and grown up pals.

There are many fun experiences for you and your family to enjoy.  Hopefully, it will spark the whole family to start writing and drawing together.

I hope you'll have fun when you visit either Tampa or St. Louis!

Knuffle Bunny getting ready for its new home.

The Park Slope Public Library on 6th Ave & 9th St. will soon have a new bronze statue of KNUFFLE BUNNY in residence in their recently created story garden.  Located just blocks from the Knuffle Bunny Laundromat, you can visit somebunny during story times or whenever the garden is open.

It's extraordinarily flattering to have this character become a permanent part of my old neighborhood on the 15th anniversary of the publication of Knuffle Bunny's first adventure.

This project was initiated by various Park Slope organizations and voted on by the residents.  The wonderful sculpture was created by Park Slope local Chad Rimer and financed by a local family.  Many thanks to everyone involved in making this happen, especially the indefatigable Christopher Franceschelli; it's a rare, exciting honor.

There will be an unveiling of the statue in late June (details to follow) !

There is one production of my musical plays going on this summer.  If you're in the area, take a kid to the theater.  You'll be exposing a young mind to the joys of live performance, and I'll bet you have a great time, too!
