This September features a big, fun, free concert as part of MoKC, my Artist-in-Residence at the Kennedy Center:

I'll be there along with my composer, Deborah Wicks La Puma, and a great group of singers and musicians to sing songs from all of my musical productions, including a sneak peek at DON'T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS! THE MUSICAL!

The show is part of the opening of the REACH.

Tickets are FREE, but you have to get them before they're gone

Additionally, there will be drawing stations at THE MOONSHOT STUDIO!

And a new, free APP, where a virtual reality PIGEON will help guide you around the Kennedy Center!

Yep, that's a very, very large PIGEON that will be hanging out at the KC for a while.

The Washington Post gives the details about the shows, 20ft Pigeon, and sequins!

That's not all:

Tickets to this fall's WORLD PREMIER of DON'T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS! THE MUSICAL! are on sale now.  We've been working on this show for a couple of years and I'm very excited to share during it's holiday run (November 2019 - January 2020) at the Kennedy Center and the national tour that will follow. Tickets are selling fast, so get yours while you can!

Also available are tickets to a symphonic rendition of GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE DINOSAURS, my collaboration with the National Symphony Orchestra and Ben Folds that will be performed in April of 2020.  This, also, has been great fun to work on.

You can go to the MoKC site to learn more about some the events, programs, and outreach that MoKC has planned for the next 2 years.

It's all incredibly exciting and a great honor.  Also, fun!

THE PIGEON NEEDS A BATH BOOK! is Mo Willems' fan favorite condensed in a bath book format with high-quality Pigeon bath toy-available only with this set.

The Pigeon really needs a bath! Except, the Pigeon's not so sure about that. Besides, he took a bath last month! Maybe. It's going to take some serious convincing to try and get the Pigeon to take the plunge.

Yes, it happened: last year's rock opera based on Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed is being released on vinyl!  This limited release features the original cast album, lyrics, and a paperback edition of the book that started it all.

I'm super excited about this release that is sure to become a collectors item and it sounds great!

Brandywine River Museum of Art
Chadds Ford, PA

October 5, 2019 - January 5, 2020

For this exhibition, guest curator H. Nichols B. Clark, Founding Director and Chief Curator of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art Emeritus, has deflected textual considerations and focused on the broad array of imagery; the central premise is to consider the three tales and upend the status quo of traditional depictions. The work of nineteenth and early twentieth-century masters such as George Cruikshank, Walter Crane, and L. Leslie Brooke will provide examples of classic styles and interpretations that influenced numerous traditional artists such as Marcia Brown, Paul Galdone, Barbara McClintock, and Jerry Pinkney. These orthodox images will be juxtaposed with unconventional interpretations, such as the more experimental and edgy visions exemplified by the art of Steven Guarnaccia, James Marshall, Lane Smith, William Wegman, David Wiesner, and Mo Willems.
Illustrations, explored as signifiers of time and culture, reveal the extraordinary versatility inherent in the stories. Rich multicultural readings, such as those from China (Ed Young), the Spice Islands of Indonesia (Reynold Ruffins), the Caribbean (Brian Pinkney), Russia (Anita Lobel), and Mexico (Tomie dePaola) underscore the notion that these treasured stories live visually in many different forms and lend themselves to surprisingly diverse interpretation.

There is one production of my musical plays going on this fall.  If you're in the area, take a kid to the theater.  You'll be exposing a young mind to the joys of live performance, and I'll bet you have a great time, too!

RECAP + Thanks!

Thanks to YOU, The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! debuted at #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list, joining the list with Elephant & Piggie's Waiting is not Easy!

The TODAY show thought the book is great for back to school, along with some other great titles.

Shelf Awareness liked it, too, calling it the best Pigeon book yet, the Wall Street Journal also liked it, and the New York Times featured it as a back to school book.

I had great fun chatting with Morning Edition's Rachel Martin about my books, philosophy, and work at the Kennedy Center.  You can hear it here!

The 2nd MO WILLEMS Night at the Brooklyn Cyclones was a blast!

Thanks to all who came out for the reading, first pitch and game.

We had so much fun this July at DON'T LET THE PIGEON DO STORYTIME! featuring the Storytime All-Stars!

The cast, crew, and audience were all wonderful!  We're cutting the footage right now for future broadcast!
